Children, who are in our institution, come from dysfunctional families where they were educational and emotional neglected, and in some cases abused. The main activity of the Home is to provide appropriate care and education for children and young people, depending on their age. Forms of accommodation are permanent, weekly and daily stays.
Location and activities:
Home operates at two locations: i Split- “Maestral” and in Kastel Luksic - Branch “Miljenko i Dobrila”, these two residential communities in Split.
In Split are organized:
- Department of infants and children nursery aged
- Preschool Department
- Department of schoolchildren
In branch “Miljenko i Dobrila” are placed children of school age in 8 residential units. In each unit stays group of children with teacher with intention to create family atmosphere.
In the comprehensive care of children the important thing is task of preparing young people for independent life after their stay in the Home. Therefore, the Home has secured accommodation within the two residential communities in Split (male and female).
In daily work a great number of volunteers helps us significantly. An integral part of the educational process is to organize free time.
Inside the institution are organized different workshops: art, ecology, drama, sports, dancing, charity, etc… Also, art colony has been organized for 18 years, in which participated celebrate artists. In joint work with children, they create works of art that stay in property o Home, vacant for sale.
In recent years, cooperation with the private sector is developed. In these workshops the children make Christmas cards, wedding invitations and participate in interior design.
Children are involved in the sports clubs and cultural societies of the city of Split and Kastel and “Maestral”, as an institution, is an active participant in all events in the city of Split and Kastel and the Split-Dalmatia County.
In the process of reforming of Croatian social care, Home “Maestral” is involved in activities that contribute to the prevention of placement of children in institutions, especially their long stay in them.
